Tornado Watch Issued For Deep South Through Saturday Morning, Advisory Issued for Parts of NC/VA For Today Only

by

National Weather Force has issued a tornado watch for Southeast AR, Northeast half of LA, Most of MS, and the Western half of Alabama effective now through Saturday morning in a long duration event with multiple impulses moving through the period.  A Tornado Advisory is also in effect for North Carolina and Virginia so read on for details …

The tornado watch in the deep south will be for notable tornado dynamics, up through EF2 being possible today into the overnight, well into the overnight into early Saturday morning.  Impulses will move through today, followed by the main frontal zone with embedded tornadoes likely overnight tonight.  This is a night event as well so keep in mind to always be prepared with this moving through.  There are certain upper features that is stopping me from upgrading this to a ‘moderate’ risk, or red-shaded alert.  We do have a lack of upper support from the jet stream, which will keep most of the activity in a line of storms with embedded tornadoes… and not so much the isolated supercells for longer tracking tornado events.

The tornado advisory is for Southern VA and Northern NC for today.  This area has isolated supercell potential, which is enough to warrant weak tornado risks, weak meaning EF0-1 will be possible in this area.  I also note the sea breeze convergence  zone near Virginia Beach to keep an eye on.
