Flood Watch

by

Issued or Partial Issued States: PA, MD, WV, VA, DE, NJ, NY, DC – Map inside shows affected state areas.

Site:  National Weather Force has issued a Flood Watch effective Friday into Saturday, May 6-7, 2022 …

Date:  5/5/22 at 11:00am Eastern Time

Forecast: The same system that is causing the major flooding in parts of Oklahoma and Arkansas at the current time will move east-northeast over the next 18 hour.  As this happens, by Friday morning it will overspread the watch area.  The main target for the heaviest precipitation with favorable moisture/forcing will be across the southern half of Pennsylvania and Northern Maryland.

Thunder will accompany the system at times, but the most thunderstorm dynamics look to be further south of the heaviest flood risk zone, which is along and north of the warm front where instability is limited.

A NWF Flood Watch means conditions are possible for heavy rainfall in a short period of time that can lead to flooding in spots.  Hydroplaning on roadways is very likely in this type of scenario as well.
